Book Blurb #9 — Mystére

Mystére Optique en Marseille

The dark blue sunglasses lay on the dark blue beach towel with the bright red roses on it. One lens reflected four cupcakes, two chocolate and two caramel, melting in the summer sun. The other lens reflected fire, and the earthly remains of Mark Andrew Gaston, senior cancer consultant at Marseille's Bayview Clinic.
The lenses distorted the human remains just as they distorted the melting cupcakes, but did nothing to show who had brought the cupcakes any more than they showed who had brought the illustrious doctor there to be killed.
Longueuil Langlois, chief of detectives with the Sureté in Paris, was called down to Marseille to help the already overworked force in the Mediterranean seaport. His job was to show what the only witness, the reflecting sunglasses, could not show. His job was to solve the mystery.
Author Cor Irwin has another winner here. (150 words including title)

Each week, Lisa Ricard Claro, at Writing in the Buff, presents a photo that could be the cover of a book. Our challenge is to write, in 150 words or less, a blurb for the back cover of a "book" illustrated by this picture. Tough to do? Sometimes, but fun, too. See what others have written. Maybe you'd like to try.  Click here to find out: Book Blurb Friday

Oh I like this one. Aviator shades, cupcakes and a murder....I would have to buy this book. Well done Kay.

My little duck friends are at our local aviary. I have to shoot my photos through a chain link fence. They don't always cooperate, I have lots of photos of ducky behinds as they dive under the water.

Were the glasses worn by the killer?

And why cupcakes?

Great blurb!

This is so creative. I love the contrast you provide through the two lenses, one benign and one horrific, and I'm left to wonder if the two are related or totally separate. Wonderful blurb. I'd buy the book!

@ June FC — Why cupcakes? Those brown things reflected in one lens just look like cupcakes to me, with melting icing.

This has to be the cleverest use of this photo so far - imaginative to the nth degree and definitely one I'd buy.

Langlois has a big job on his hands. He hasn't much to go on. I like stories like this where the smallest details are so important.

Hi Kay ... wow, I love your descriptions and how you led us to the murder with cupcakes still on our minds. I would really enjoy finding out how this story progresses and ends.

I do enjoy your bood blurbs, you let the imagination run wild.
As to the mystery of where Kelso is, that has been solved and the map link is now in place. When possible I am also adding a link for more information.

My curiosity is definitely aroused. Who did those glasses belong to and why were they abandoned along with the towel and cupcakes? I hope they didn't belong to the killer. The thought of him sunning himself and eating cupcakes after his villainous deed is just a bit too gruesome. Not that I'd be putting the book down!
