Take Me Out to the Ball Game

This is my first post
for Hootin' Anni's new meme,
THURSDAY THEME SONG.

Because it's almost October, I just had to choose this song.

Everybody in North America knows most of,
but probably not all of, the lyrics to this song,
which is sung during the Seventh Inning Stretch
at almost every baseball game everywhere:

Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out with the crowd,
Buy me some peanuts and cracker jack,
I don't care if I never get back,
Let me root, root, root for the home team,
If they don't win it's a shame.
For it's one, two, three strikes, you're out,
At the old ball game.

If you want to know more about this song, including all the original lyrics, click on this link and learn about who wrote it, when it was changed, and who first sang it at a ball game.
TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME

To go with this seasonal song,
I've chosen two photos of
spring training games
we attended and one of a game
in a Major League ballpark,
along with one of a little guy who just might be
the future of the game... what do you think?

If you've never heard this song, or have never had a chance to sing it, check it out on YouTube:
By Harry Caray

An early recording sung by Edward Meeker

And my favorite baseball song by one of my favorite singers, added here just for fun:
John Fogerty singing Centerfield

Photos by Richard Schear and Kay Davies.
Posted by Kay for THURSDAY THEME SONG,
definitely a Davies kind of meme.

Let's get this new meme up and running, everyone! Song lyrics and song titles are some of my family's long-time favorite things. Mom (1924-2007) and Dad (1924-2009), we're thinking about you now.

Wayne loves to go to USC baseball games. I always need a stretch by the 7th inning. Games can get pretty long. - Margy

I lived in the Chicago area for 35 years. My family were big time Cubs fans. I can still hear Harry Caray singing that song in my head even though I was the only one who wasn't a baseball fan.

Hi Kay,
everyday I play Baseball on the WII machine. I used to play softball in school so playing baseball brings good memories.

Cheers,

Ann

I don't think we have songs like that. Every football (the proper soccer version) team do have their own club song though. And more often than not weird and sometimes insulting chants.

Hi Kay! Great post!! Great song!.. but I have to admit, as going to a real live Pro Baseball game is still on my bucket list.. I didn't know they sang this song in specifically the 7th inning!! That was news to me!... Actually your post got me thinking about one of my favorite movies too... "My Blue Heaven"! I just might have to pop that into the DVD player tonight, when I finally kick up my feet!.. Have a great day! ~tina

While I'm not much of a baseball fan I still like the song. My favorite is also Centerfield.
