Another one from my friend

© Maryann Brown photo

This mixture of golden reflections and shapely shadows comes from my friend Maryann, a Californian now living on the beautiful Oregon coast. She spent Christmas in California with her children and grandchildren, and couldn't resist capturing this cell-phone shot of the sun's rays bouncing off windows and onto a parking lot in Santa Rosa. A golden gift for Christmas, for her to share with me, and I with you.

Oregon's beautiful skies, part two

During my visit this month with my friend Maryann in the US state of Oregon, I saw skies of many colors, and chose an assortment of blue ones to share here today. But don't believe everything you see, it can rain there, and often does.

That isn't land on the horizon, those are clouds. Once you're past the points of land jutting out from the mainland, you won't see land again until you see Japan.

Our World Tuesday: Oregon with a friend

We were on the shady side of this stream in the middle of the rainforest...

...where the moss grows on all sides of the trees.
These two shots were taken on my birthday, December 1,
and the others a day or so later during my visit with my
longtime friend Maryann at her fabulous ocean-view home.

Waldport, Oregon. That's the shadow of Maryann's
Mini Cooper on the right. I took a shot of the car but
it isn't in focus. Very cute transportation, however!

Low tide at the estuary, taken from Yachats Ocean Road State Park,
with the town of Yachats, Oregon, in the background.
Many trees on the Oregon coast are distorted during their battle with offshore winds.

A little farther along Yachats Ocean Road, a seagull posed for me.

Devil's Churn at low tide. With the combination of
high tide and a storm, the spray can come right up to
the spot where I was standing.

Much of the coast of Oregon consists of sand dunes.
Wise men build their houses farther uphill.

Weekend Reflections: where I've never been

My good friend Maryann lives in a wonderful place overlooking the Oregon coast. While I was visiting her there last week, she asked me if I'd like to post her photo from Norway in my blog and it is a reflection too good to pass up! So I'll have to save my Oregon reflections until later.
Maryann's photo shows reflections in a puddle on the cobbles in front of the Bryggen Buildings across from the fish market in Bergen, Norway.

SkyWatch Friday: sky over Oregon

It was my birthday last week. The day I officially became a Senior Citizen found me waking up in Albany, Oregon, after arriving on an Amtrak train the previous evening, then traveling from Albany to the wild and wonderful Oregon coast with my good friend Maryann. We took the scenic route: through the rainforest with a stop at quaint little Alsea and then to her beautiful view home in Waldport, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It was a lovely day, and a great visit! Thanks, Maryann!

Above and below, right, morning clouds over Albany, Oregon.

Above, a deserted store in Alsea, with a
still-popular store, below, left, across from it.

While Maryann popped into the Waldport Library,
I took out my camera, above and below.
The view from Maryann's deck, above, and
sunset, below, seen between Waldport and Newport.

Pet Pride: cat nap!

Here it is, time to post a pet picture, and I'm miles from home, having a wonderful time visiting my friend Maryann on the beautiful coast of the US state of Oregon. I'm also visiting her sweet senior kitty, DooMee, who likes to cuddle up to someone to keep warm. Maryann took this photo when I was asleep, and so was Doo Mee, with her face tucked into my arm because she likes to keep her nose warm.
I hope to have a brand-new picture of Lindy next week for all you Lindy fans out there.
