Now, of course, having a bright new screen and a comfortable new keyboard, I have grand illusions of The Great Canadian Novel! Those grand illusions seem to hit me every time my sore hands work properly and in sync with my brain. When the pain returns, I know I'll never write it.
Okay, so that lasts five or ten minutes, and then I discover I can't scroll down the page. This happened while I was on Facebook earlier, and it carried over here into Blogger. My techie guy is at the school down the street playing pickleball, but he spent all of last afternoon and evening fussing with this new machine of mine, so I hate to ask him to help me again. I don't even know what to call the scrolling-down bar.
I'm still having the occasional argy-bargy with the slider-downer on the righthand side here, but all in all it did turn into a reasonably good afternoon. Said techie, to whom I referred above, has come home, and has taken our little dog for one of the long, long walks she loves. The temperature was above freezing this afternoon, which was a nice break from the recent deep-deep-freezes, making their walk fairly comfortable.
Now I'm debating...do I make dinner, or do I continue attempting to master this new and supposedly wonderful machine? I don't know. (Sometimes I wish I'd spent all my new-computer money on a '56 Chevy with a 409. Sigh. But I don't drive any more. Sigh again.)

Hello, sometimes I think my internet freezes and will not allow me to scroll down. Not sure what is going on there. I know the dog was happy to go for a walk. The vintage cars are cool. Enjoy your day. Have a great new week!
I can't decide whether I love 'em or hate 'em. Computers that is. One thing is for sure and that is time takes on a new dimension when I'm using the computer, it travels twice as fast compared to when I am doing other things.
New computers are always so fun to get use to or at least I think so. My last one is my desktop that I really, really like. I prefer desktop pc to laptop, which is good because my laptop just bit the dust. I can usually get one going again, but even with the backup disks I did when new, it just won't work. Message tells me, I think if I read it right, that the motherboard or hard drive at least part is dead and will not boot. I didn't use it that much anyway. And, I agree...a 56 Chevy would be nice too. Our first new was a 65 Chevy 327, which was a whole $2999 brand new. :)

Don’t know what this means, Kay, but I understood your wandering keyboard remark perfectly, although I didn’t know what to call it until now. Yes, I have a wandering keyboard and also revisit writing that great Canadian novel from time to time. Does that make us long lost twins? :))

Hello Kay and Happy New Year to you both. The idea of a '56 Chevy appeals to but I couldn't afford the petrol.
As to your worries about anthropomorphism. It's a common feeling and I try to avoid it in my blog as it is supposedly "unscientific" but then I think more. We are all animals from the same Primordial stock all those many millions of years ago so why wouldn't we as humans share feelings and emotions with those other animals that evolved along different directions?
Have fun with your new PC. I know Windows 10 is a pain but I dont use a Mac.
I'm such a PC person that my son-in-law finally said I should give up on my Macbook Air. He installed Windows on my Macbook which then had my son shaking his head, but at least now I can use it more easily.
New technology is great when it works. I see a Mac screen in your post, we use those at work, but my home system is a Windows laptop and I do a lot of work in Linux...
The last time I got a new computer, it was fairly straightforward. Until it came to getting online. That proved to be a bit tricky. I found out in the end and then... I moved! I found my own (paid for) internet soon enough, but no way did I find the (free, paid by my landlord) other internet connection. That has been over a year and a half again.
I could of course call for help. I made several dinners instead...
You are hilarious! I can so relate to trying to change technologies, whether it is a computer, a phone or a new coffee maker!!! Change is just hard ... until you have a sense of humor about it!
Kay -- you made me laugh and also feel inadequate all at once. I could NOT master the Mac -- my techie guy had to buy me a new PC (we have each had a computer of our own for years, but when my old PC died he wanted me to convert to Mac as he had done ... but I just *couldn't*. So I got a new PC and said techie guy mutters whenever I have an issue that he has to fix. But he DOES fix (so that's the important thing).
But I know you are smarter than I am and will master the new computer .... and maybe write the great Canadian novel yet!!! And I will want an autograph.
PS: Did you make dinner?
If you have an Apple computer I understand that you have troubles. All people I know with an iMac changed to a PC, but all depends for what you use it. For graphics and art stuff apparently it's great. I don't cook anymore. We have a specialized shop here selling their own products deep freezed and I compose the menu, and Mr. G. heats it up in the micro wave. After all we are both retired !
gosh, cooking or tech-ing... which is worse? I just don't know. You're talking to a person who bought a new battery for her old computer so she didn't have to deal with a new operating system. dinosaur. luddite.
