Posted for the Imaginary Garden with Real Toads.
I used to be a Toad
and I was happy
I used to be a Toad
and I was green
with great big yellow warts
on all my toadly parts
the funniest-looking toad
you’ve ever seen.
but then I hibernated
and I waited and I waited
to become a Toad again,
you see.
but waiting did no good
(hibernating, even less)
and I forgot how toadly
I had been.
I forgot my toadly parts
and only could see warts
where once there’d been
a lovely shade of green.
I used to be a poet
of nonsensical verse
but life somehow got worse
’til I lost my sense of verse,
becoming short and shrill and terse
instead of green.

Here is hoping you'll be back to your green toadly looks and yellow warty self soon. This is so cute and yet it has that truth of not being what we need to be - writing. That does make one short and shrill and terse.
We get lots of frogs at the cabin, but I haven't seen any toads. But I remember them growing up in Southern California in our garden, warts and all. - Margy

There's always the good times before. One is inclined for a revisit and see what gives. There'll be plenty waiting for the good moves. Missed you Kay!

Oh I think we sometimes lack that green.. all poets have those days.. and sometimes all things come easy..

I love this poem, Kay. I remember it from some time earlier, and it stays top of mind when I visit here. Love, love.
Hope you are well and getting your comments! xoxxo
Hi Kay! Always a special day when you pay the toads a visit.
as a once and future toad, Kay, I am always glad to see you hop into the pond ~
We often fail to appreciate what we are/have until we no longer...
The good thing is, we are our own most powerful advocate, so that used to be need not be, need not matter.
Sometimes its hard to see 'green' for all the warts. Going through a bit of a dry spell myself at the moment.
I so love my toads! Great work, Kay!
