My husband suggested recently that I read an article in one of his sports magazines, about one of my favourites on the Toronto Blue Jays, Edwin Encarnación, of whom great things seem to be expected.
The following ditty was written a year or two ago, maybe, perhaps...at least as far as I can remember. It was certainly written long before that magazine article was written. But I've always liked shy, quiet Edwin, and have hoped he would be headed for great things.
I also like the fact that he is from the Dominican Republic, a place we have visited and enjoyed, and where we liked the people very much.
With Major League Baseball's opening day looming, and us with other plans, here's a tip of the cap to our Edwin, which I'm posting for Open Link Monday at the Imaginary Garden with Real Toads.
Our Edwin En-car-na-ci-ón
worked hard his home run skills to hone.
Then he tied, number three
in the whole MLB.
Let’s hope he does not break a bone!

i'm a long time Cubby in the Nat'l league and a Tex. Ranger fan in the Amer.
i do like edwin
Go Edwin! There's something so sweet and so sure about the swing of a great slugger. Reminds me of watching Roberto Clemente of the Pittsburgh Pirates demolish my beloved Cubbies as I sat in cold Wrigley Field one day.
Opening Day is a huge deal here, and is scheduled for a week from today. I hope it doesn't snow!
I will hope with you. Had to chuckle.
Let's hope he is spared from heart-breaks relating to fitness! Nicely Kay!

Kay, I am glad you are a baseball fan. We are sort of, liking American football better. Our team is the Houston Astros, they haven't been doing good at all lately. They need some poems of encouragement. :)
..
This is so fun!

Liked your words. Not the game! YAMxx
May I add my best wishes to yours.
We are in Phoenix this week for Spring Training. Going to three big league games. While we are here we are also going to an Arizona State University men's baseball game and four women's softball games. By the time we are done we will probably be sunburned to a crisp and baseballed out. Who's kidding, we came for the sun! - Margy
A fitting tribute for the start of the season and a deserving subject..lol. Great job Kay!!!

Maybe this will be the year - again! You never know.
