Insomnia, the bane of night's existence

For "Words Count" over at the Imaginary Garden with Real Toads, our mistress of the well-chosen word, Mama Zen, has asked us to write about insomnia. Companion of my nights, murderer of my days, insomnia...
~
I wrote the book
on insomnia,
but I’ve forgotten
where I put it.
pacing the floor,
night after night,
I took insomnia
and dissected it,
examined its every molecule,
every nuance,
every characteristic
so characteristic
of my nights with it.
I became one
with insomnia,
ate it, drank it,
all but slept with it—
that I could not do.

Love the last lines! Stephen King is WAY to creepy for me, though!

OK, this first line is a killer, I wish I had written not only this but the entire poem!

Kiss.

No, I suppose not! It's a dirty rotten tease.

Perfect! Of course you couldn't sleep together. Sounds like you could write that book again.

I LOVE this, Kay! It's perfect.

Cackling. This is perfect. I am having a cup of tea right now, KNOWING it means my eyeballs will be glued open all night tonight. But I just really needed a cuppa. Sigh. So I shall be keeping you company tonight, kiddo. The other thing is, I really really hate my C-PAP machine. It disturbs my sleep and I fling it off in the wee hours. Argh.

Kay, you described insomnia perfectly. I love the first line. I can say that Stephen King's Insomnia is not a book to read when you are trying to fall asleep. :)

Great to hear from an "expert"! Your words really put me in the moment!

This, while being light and tongue in cheek, nonetheless names every nail in the coffin of sleep that insomnia works so hard to hammer all night long. Love the ending--just perfect.

This is really clever, Kay. I love your opening gambit and treating the abstract as if it were concrete was inspired.

This is great, Kay! You are amazing! I love your closing line also.

You are so good at poetry, Kay!
I love this one. I still haven't managed a poem lately.
Don't know why!

Clever as always, Kay. And how appropriate that an aging Stephen King has written about this horrific "murderer of...days!"

I am glad to say I don't suffer from insomnia. Only once was I not able to sleep at all and spend the night roaming the house. Worked all day and slept like a log the next night. Fortunately!

But you don’t seem to have got cross with it.
Insomnia, a horror night to spoil the day.
