Part of my world seems so far away

I was born in BC, Canada's westernmost province...I'm a third generation British Columbian and, when I was young, many of my friends belonged to the first or second generation of their family to be born in the far west of Canada. Now there are plenty of third and fourth generation British Columbians.
(My apologies to BC's First Nations people, of course, because they've been there since forever and are rightly proud of that fact, too.)
However, I've been thinking about my family, about the fourth and the fifth generations. I came home to find a telephone message from my eldest niece, and when I phoned, she and her little daughter were entertaining my youngest niece and nephew along with their mom, my youngest brother's wife.
"Give them all a kiss," I said, "and tell them I love them!"
They're so far away.
Or I'm so far away.
I'm now living on the eastern side of Alberta, Canada's next-most-western province. Between me and my home town is a wide expanse of prairie, then the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, then the Rockies themselves, then all the 10 or 12 mountain ranges which, with rivers and valleys in between, make up Beautiful BC.
That's the other part of My World, the southwestern end of the BC coast, the beautiful Semiahmoo Peninsula, with the next two generations of Auntie Kay's family.

What a lovely family!
It is tough when one is far away from family. Makes it so important to enjoy the times when everyone is together even more.

It is tough when family are far away. I just love the wonders of Skype, and use it weekly to catch up with my daughter and grandchildren who live in Utah.

I totally understand.

Lovely family! You look great with the baby. Yes it's sad to have your relatives so far away from you. My daughter lives in Australia and that's always difficult when something important happens.

...and yet you are wearing a TORONTO sweater??
My family is close by, but sometimes I think they may as well be in another province - they think it is too far to drive to visit.

@ VioletSky -- My husband and I are baseball fans and we love the Toronto Blue Jays. I drove from eastern Alberta to western BC last year. What an experience! More on that later.

@ Ma Zelia -- Obrigado pelas suas amáveis palavras.
Estou muito feliz por você. É tão emocionante estar esperando seu primeiro neto.

@ Fishing Guy -- BC was certainly a great place to grow up.

@ Everyone -- Thanks for visiting my blog. I love the internet, and inexpensive long-distance phone plans, for keeping in touch with my family. My eldest niece phones me almost every day. I'm trying to get Skype to work on my iMac, but I'm not very good at figuring these things out. Maybe when my husband has some spare time, he can help me.

It is hard when families are spread out. Great shots of the young children in your family.

Kay, I just love your family and the closeness that is evident between you and your niece. Your part of the world sounds awesome. I never realised British Columbia was so vast. Thanks for your visit to my blog. Yes, children all over the world enjoy playing - even in the street as I did as a child in South Africa and as you say you and your brother did when growing up. I have a link to a new blog on my post tomorrow if you'd care to visit and check it out. Bless you my friend. Jo

Wonderful family pictures. I have family scattered from B.C. to Ontario. Ontario, where my grandchildren live, seems like an ocean away. When we do see each other, I appreciate every precious moment.
