It wasn't the wet west coast that day

The February day I met with two blogger friends for tea in my home town, White Rock, BC, was not a typical late-winter/early-spring day on the south coast of British Columbia. There were clouds, but they were pale, puffy, and not at all threatening. After tea, and after parting from our new friend Lynette, my longtime friend Maria and I walked slowly up the hill, cameras in hand, delighting at the weather we'd been granted. "Look at the sky," we exclaimed, almost as one, "isn't it a beautiful blue?"
The White Rock area was my world for 30 years, and I love it dearly, but believe me, it doesn't always look this good in February, so I'm happy I took these photos to share with you. I know, it's summer now, but better late than never!

Watery Wednesday: the coast of Surrey, BC

Posted for Watery Wednesday, hosted
every week by 2sweetnsaxy of T. Bruce Photography
who invites us to get our eyes wet, then post a watery photo. It's fun! Thanks, 2sweet!

"My" photo this week was taken by my friend Penelope Puddle, when we visited Camp Kwomais in Ocean Park, South Surrey, BC, because I didn't have my camera on my trip to the west coast.
Silly me. Thanks, Penelope!

My world: waiting for the eagles

There I am, on the left, waiting for the bald eagles to come out to play at Camp Kwomais
in the lovely Ocean Park area of south Surrey, British Columbia.

When the slightest bit of sun shows itself, up goes my 'Monet Parasol' because my skin breaks out in painful red spots when exposed to sunlight. My parasol doubles as an umbrella on rainy days, but I didn't get it wet at all during my recent visit to my family on 'the wet coast'.

It wasn't easy for my friend aka Penelope to capture a shot of the big, beautiful birds. They were soaring and floating on the breeze, the adults occasionally diving for fish to feed their late-hatching young, and the 1- and 2-year-old juveniles playfully swooping down toward the water without catching anything at all. Here are three of them, and we saw several more.

Consulting an Umbrella Expert

Oh, the trials and tribulations of an unfittie with photosensitivity issues, ending up in a hot Shanghai summer, seeking shade under a black umbrella (photo by Richard Schear). On a cruise to Alaska, Dick's blue and white golf umbrella hid him from the rain in Juneau (photo by Kay Davies) while in the Galapagos Islands, the big beige umbrella hid both of us from the sun at the equator (photo by Karina Lopez). Now the author has decided to consult an umbrella expert, Penelope Puddle, who lives on the wet west coast of Canada and can do wonderful things with the help of her umbrella. Perhaps Auntie Kay can learn to do the same. www.penelopepuddle.blogspot.com
