We walk on this illusory rock confidently, comfortably, tempted to take this temporary thing as truth.
The rock is a lie.

What is it in the human mind that recognizes mirages yet yearns to accept them as real? That, upon waking, refuses to recognize the death of a dream?
We're masochists all, we humans, walking wide-eyed into pain, daring it to hurt us and recoiling in surprise when it strikes.
Optimists eternally hoping, fools who know no fear.
Into the lion's den we walk, softly crooning, "Kitty, kitty, kitty."
Hand held out to stroke the head of a rabid dog; bare feet in the scorpion's lair; bare heart held in a heartless lover's hand.

I very much loved this prose poem Kay! You have been writing beautifully for a few years now !! Without optimism however, we'd just curl up in a corner as soon as we reached adulthood and stay there. (Adulthood happening at whatever age we first encounter reality. It comes at different ages for each of us.)

Kay I love the fact that you match a 2016 photo with your writing from 1979. Your writing is very thought provoking, I have read it several times now, it has certainly passed the test of time. I like to try to be an optimist eternally hoping, this world sends it's challenges in that respect! Lovely peice of writing.
