See the pollution coming out of the motorbike in the center picture? What worries me is the sight of little kids sitting on the bikes' gas tanks. Two out of three drivers with helmets but none for passengers.
Thanks for bringing that to my attention. Both pollution and helmet issues are of concern. I remember hearing some visitors attending the Olympics were surprised at the very poor air quality. Also, I’m guessing helmets are not yet mandatory throughout China.
Okay, now the top picture is of a bike of the non-polluting kind. One out of four ain't bad. Actually, there are millions (literally) of bicycles being used in China, and Chinese cities provide lots of specific bicycle parking for their pollution-free commuters.
