For Real Toads: objects of reflection

The lamp beside my desk,
Kay Davies, photo.

Ella's challenge for today:
Art of Assemblage

For the writers' group Imaginary Garden with Real Toads, Ella tells us about a book she just read, by poet/artist Annie Lockhart who builds collages of found materials she calls "Objects of Reflection"
Ella asks us to look around us, to see the things we love, the things we collect, the things with which we live, and to use them as inspiration for a poem, as Annie Lockhart does with her art.
It took me a long time today, as I wasn't feeling well. I was feeling quite gloomy, in fact, until bits of light found their way through the blinds on my new window, and fell on the lampshade which I have tilted over my desk, then fell onto the wall, like a little river of brightness.

above the lamp—
a gift from a friend to the west;
below the lamp—
a gift from a friend to the east;
onto the lamp—
light from my bright new window
spills onto the shade,
then onto the wall.
some days
I see these things
without smiling;
some days
I think of friends
but am lonely.
how dare I?
I, who have
friends:
I, who have
light.
