Watery Wednesday: White Rock and Waldport

I visited my hometown of White Rock, BC, recently, and also visited a good friend in Waldport, Oregon. I thought it rather interesting to look at the calm water of the bay at the White Rock pier, compared with a day in Waldport that was very calm by Oregon coast standards. With no offshore islands, Oregon gets battered by waves traveling a huge distance, while the British Columbia mainland is protected by many islands, including Vancouver Island, which is larger than many countries. The west coast of "the island" as British Columbians call Vancouver Island, is on my bucket list. I've heard it can put Oregon, California, Hawaii and Australia to shame, but I have to see it for myself.

Wind-tortured trees frame the view from my friend Maryann's deck overlooking the Oregon coast.
