Book Blurb Friday: colorful storefronts

Each week, Lisa Ricard Claro, on her blog Writing in the Buff, posts a photo and asks writer-bloggers to think of it as a book cover. Once we have imagined a book with the photo on its front cover, we then write a "blurb" of 150 words or less, to convince browsers to become buyers.
Here is my submission of 150 words, not including the title or the author's name.

Like the Perp
by James R. Brawlin

“There were witnesses, I saw them!” the young policeman tried to explain to his sergeant. “They were sitting at the table on the right.”
“Well, they’re not there now, and there’s no evidence of them ever having been there,” his superior said. “How did that happen?”
“I don’t know, sir. Seriously, sir. Really, sir, I did, I saw them as I was chasing the perp.”
“The suspect.”
“Er, yes, the suspect, sir, the person who came out of this building that’s under construction, came out and ran away, so I chased him...”
“And couldn’t catch up with him,” the sergeant frowned.
“That’s right sir.”
“Probably a decoy,” muttered the sergeant.
But the young patrolman didn’t hear him. He was looking at someone on the other side of the street, someone who looked...who looked like...who looked like one of the witnesses, and also like the perp, er, the suspect.
