I am
wistful when I think
wisteria lives so long
Flowering Wisteria sinensis
or Chinese Wisteria

and why, therefore, not I?
it is prettier by far
and loved by one and all,
but why, wherefore, not I?
I am
grateful when I think
wisteria lives at all,
that such beauty exists
in our modern world,
its lilac-coloured flowers
reminding us of eternity.
I am
happy when I think
of many generations
sharing stories of kisses
beneath the flowering vine,
half an acre of blossoms
reminding us all of love.

This is so pretty, Kay!
ReplyDeleteOh, Kay...I love the form that this took...and that you set apart "I am" feels significant. This poem is so graceful, Kay...thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteYour thoughts on the beautiful wisteria are conveyed with a delicate touch in this piece, Kay.
ReplyDeleteYour words are as beautiful as the wisteria.
ReplyDeleteIf we lived as long as the wisteria, we would not be half as pretty at the end. So perhaps it’s better that we pack as much of its appeal into our shorter span of live as we can.
Kisses and love… a few of us keyed into that theme. It's easy to understand why - Your words flow beautifully here!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Kay...we wrote on a similar theme...I too wonder how the wisteria can thrive far beyond our weak bones...
ReplyDeletethis is beautiful..
ReplyDeleteAs MZ says--you make this as pretty as the flower, and add the human wistfulness in.
ReplyDeleteI love how you shape your poetry.
