For Fireblossom Friday at the Imaginary Garden with Real Toads, Shay offers us, as inspiration, these words from the great Leonard Cohen...
“There is a crack,
a crack,
in everything”
Leonard Cohen
| Photos by Richard Schear |
There is a crack
in everything,
there is a crack in my heart
where my words hurt you
and you forgot,
but I did not.
Our peace was shattered,
our love was splattered
across the painful street
where once it lived.
It fled through the gutters
and I closed the shutters
so I shouldn't see you
so I shouldn't hurt.
Did I save myself
at your expense?
I'll never know
because I can't see you
from within the ruins of my shuttered soul.

The worst part is that we never know. Lovely pictures, Kay.
ReplyDeleteHow sad this is. We must all learn to forgive I think--even to forgive ourselves. Nice photos.
ReplyDeleteOuch -- sounds like bad choices, relationships that fail and lost connections.
ReplyDeleteA heartfelt poem, Kay!
ReplyDeleteFirst, I enjoyed the pictures..the line that struck me..
ReplyDelete"our peace was shattered:
Tis hard when our peace is shattered..
Very lovely; that Leonard Cohen song is one of my favorites and I've posted pictures of a sculpture thing in Eugene Oregon about it. Your poem based on it is touching.
ReplyDeleteOh this is so well expressed. I especially like "shuttered soul". So many people could resonate with this poem, Kay and the photos are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteKay, thanks so much for stopping and commenting at my place. This was stunning! The cracks in the soul are the worst, and when all hell breaks loose, we do close the shutters rather than see the damage. "My shuttered soul," great turn of phrase.
ReplyDeleteThx also for your love of baby elephants. I was so tickled you mentioned them, because I used to collect them for my late mom, brass, ceramic, any kind. Peace, Amy

Intense and interesting...love your choice of words, phrases.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing.
Peace,
Siggi
A crack that opens up is sad. It needs immediate care and not to be allowed to fester. Great pics too! Nicely Kay!

Such cracks may never heal over. You drew on emotions many readers can relate to, Kay.
ReplyDeleteA broken relationship brings so much pain and hurt. It takes the heart time to heal, and breaking all contact with the other speeds the process of mending.
ReplyDeleteMoving!
aw, Kay, this is lovely and contemplative. i think the rhymes in here are effective in bringing attention to the core question. very nice!
ReplyDeleteYes, we never know do we? I like that you have focused on how the action affects the person it originated with.
ReplyDeleteOh Kay, this is quite a beautiful poem.
ReplyDeleteLovely poem Kay. Only we remember our darkness. The world seems to move on and we get stuck.
ReplyDeleteI feel your words as another who has experienced the cracks you speak of.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, this is some sad stuff, Kay! I'm so glad you did my FBF challenge!
