Mellow Yellows: here, there, away

Last but certainly not least, my brother Clint and his wife Maria saw this black bear during their recent visit to Whistler, BC, site of the 2010 Olympic skiing competitions and a reasonably short drive from their home in southwestern BC. Maria said the bear was "too close" for her liking. Later, just outside Whistler Creek, they saw another bear, lying on top of a pile of gravel at a construction site.

  3. LOVE your photos, especially the sky one.......I live rurally on a short dead-end street, where a black bear has been living for twenty years. He appears in the creek fishing when the salmon are spawning, and again at berry and apple season. We hear him in the bushes and see his spoor often......there is a small woods at the end of our road. One night at two a.m. I happened to wake up and look out my window and saw him sitting on my sister's porch. At first wasnt sure what it was, saw this black shape and wondered if she was being burgled. Shone my flashlight at him and he looked at me and I saw it was our bear - he was eating apples out of a box my sister had on her porch. Hee hee. But one winter night, when it was sleeting and miserable, I heard him roaring and crying piteously down the end of the road. poor bear. I wanted to invite him in.

Once I watched a bear break into a car in the Wickanninish parking lot in Tofino......there must have been food inside. He stood up, rocked the small car back and forth till the windows popped out, then climbed in through the window. I left then so am not sure how the animal control officer got him out of the car!

  5. Today we took a quad ride hoping to see some yellow leaves, but alas, not many yet. So late. At least I could see yours. Plus we thought we might come across a bear in some of the logging slashes, but again, I had to come online to see yours. Thanks for filling in the blanks for me. - Margy

  13. Wow, I love the yellow sky. That is a great shot.

Nice shot of the bear. We used to see them a lot when we lived in Northern CA. They are in this area but we have yet to see one.

  14. That sky capture of yellow, is awesome, so is the yellow tree. I love the way the bear seems to be ambling along with not a care about having humans around. Have a great day, dear Kay. Jo
