Congratulations to the beautiful country of Switzerland, which celebrated its birthday on August 1. It's been a long time since the year 1291, so long that it staggers the imagination of a Canadian whose country is less than 200 years old. Way to go, Switzerland, 720 years! We love you.
In honor of the delightful people we met, and the wonderful country we saw for the first time this year, I'm posting three "watery" pictures my husband captured as we rode the Glacier Express train from Zermatt to St. Moritz in April.
The first shows a small river or large creek in spring flood. The next features a big hole in a mountain (one of the Swiss Alps), with a bit of water trickling from it, and the third shows a waterfall nearby.

So lovely -- I have been to several places that call themselves the Switzerland of the US. I would love to see the original! And yes, that's an old country compared to a couple of others I know and love! I sometimes felt really silly last summer when I posted about something "old" from the East Coast of the US. But to this westerner, a man-made structure from the 1700s is ancient. (Until I read a blog from, for example, India.

have been to the borders of Switserland like Basel and Geneve but never in Bern, etc.. Love the mountains there.
