Yellows in mellow Paris, and in the Louvre

Photos by Richard Schear and Kay Davies

Paris is a lady of many faces and many facets, and I've only shown a few of them here. One face is mine. One facet is French pastry, of which Dick's favorite is millefeuille, pictured bottom left in the center mosaic. Of these 18 photos, my favorite is the next one, a tourist at Notre Dame de Paris, standing nonchalantly with one hand on his luggage as three well-armed young military people walk past him. His face is the definition of expressionless! My other favorite is in the first mosaic, second right: the printing shop next door to our hotel. How great is that for a retired printer-compositor-proofreader-writer-editor like me? I think I should have placed my smile beside it! The last mosaic is made up of Dick's photos from the Musée du Louvre, where there are faces too varied and too numerous to count.

  4. You got to see Paris in Springtime, nice. We didn't see the Louvre when we visited Paris, with time for only one we chose Musée D'Orsay. I see that we missed a lot.

  5. @ Martha — I chose the Musée d'Orsay myself, but didn't get to see it. I knew the Louvre would be too much for my bad feet. Dick says we'll just have to go back to Paris. LOL

  9. Ahhh... just a perfect post for me to see this morning. Spring is just such a lovely time to visit the "City of Light" and I can see that you've captured that light so well - it's a great theme for Mellow Yellow. I loved Paris and can't wait to go there again. So many wonderful memories...

I find that I'm still drawn to the opulence of places like the Louvre and Versaille. I don't think that I ever really appreciated exactly what opulence meant until I saw that gild, crystal and mirrors in the palaces and museums.

  11. It's been about ten years since my last visit to Paris. We stayed very near the Louvre which was so nice since, with our museum passes, we could just drop in and go to the head of the line! It was a wonderful visit. One of my favorite things was the fabulous mustard shop ( can't remember the brand ) - I was going crazy choosing from all the different varieties!

  16. What a beautiful collage !

BTW, I had another blog visitor this time from Sidney. She came to London for the wedding and wanted to try out the Eurostar so we met had a lovely time together and I could show her at least the Grand'Place, because we only had 3 h ! I told her that you stayed in this hotel near the entrance of the train station !
    Isn't blogging great ?

  17. @ Fran — I couldn't go up it, either, and didn't want to watch my husband climb it, so I sent him on his own, and I stayed at our hotel nearby. I went to look at it later, and watched the light show at night.

  18. Lovely collection! It would have been hard for me to pick out favorites. You were there at the exact right season!

That is pretty funny that the printshop was right next to where you were staying.

White Rock, but would definitely like to sample them in Paris one day...:)

And fitting indeed to have the print shop beside you...love this eclectic collection of shots...

  21. They actually let you take pictures in the Louvre? I'm amazed!

DON’T LET THAT YELLOW GO TO YOUR HEAD

Don’t let that yellow go to your head!
Simply be glad it’s not puce or red!
Give thanks for the color dear to your heart:
Honey and lemon and cream— a good start!
