Critter finds frozen fruit falls down, not up

Unfortunately, these pictures will not enlarge well, as they were taken from Dick's home office through a dirty window, and a dirty window-screen. However, I couldn't resist posting these because of the expressions on this Cedar Waxwing's face: first when he spots a shriveled, frozen crabapple, and then when he tries to pick it, only to find it immediately disappears!
Earlier the same day, I saw other birds in our ornamental crabapple tree, knocking the fruit to the ground, then going down to dig it out of the snow. There is still plenty of fruit on the upper branches, but the lower branches have been picked clean by the small herd of mule deer who visit our yard.

    This inquisitive avian has it all figured out - until the law of gravity upset his carefully laid plans. It is time for the bird to regroup and find more frozen fruit...

    Ha...these are great shots, Kay! Love the look on the poor guy's face as he tries to figure out what happened! I do hope he was able to find another treat.

    I really enjoyed this post as Cedar Waxwings are one of my favourite birds, and we don't see them often out this way.Perhaps you'll post others in the furture!

    I've never seen a Cedar Waxwing except in photos, but I think they are the most beautiful birds!

    The bird looks quiet angry, maybe because of the dirty windows ? I don't see any dirt, though ! lol !

    He's adorable -- I will look at cedar waxwings anytime through any kind of screen. (And I don't see any dirt. You should see mine..probably couldn't even see the bird through them.)

    That waxwing should go down to Tracy's in Brisbane where the kookaburras get daily feasts on her porch!
