Some Seattle Shadow Shots during the heat wave

We were in Seattle during the Great Heat Wave of 2009 when shadows were greatly appreciated, particularly from that little old sun-avoider, me. (Hard to believe, when I just brought the dog in from the snow now, and had to brush her, then get ice-balls off her feet.)
However, there I am, adjusting my hat beside the totem pole in the third photo. I loved the deep shade there, with little dapples of sunlight in the foreground. When I found deep shade, I just wanted to stay, and never venture into the sun again, but we were on our way to Safeco Field to see the Toronto Blue Jays play the Seattle Mariners, so Dick hustled me along. Never try to stand between a man and his baseball game!
Temperatures in Seattle reached a record 103F (39 Celsius) while we were there.

    Well, you have to know that I love these! And they show that Seattle does indeed have sunshine -- every now and then at least! Really terrific captures, Kay! Hope your weekend is off to a good, if snowy start!!!

    The photos are beautiful! I can't wait for it to be summer here again. Though we don't have snow, it's rather cold, especially in the mornings.

    These pictures seem the anthesis of a very cold and snowy Alberta. It feels warm, naturally the place to be for us who are less charitable toward this season. We could all use some sun, more in the winter and less in the summer...

    Ugh! This Wednesday is 'Australia Day' and our western suburbs are predicted to reach 39C. However, I live in the East (closer to the ocean) and we will only reach 33C. I am going out very early and will be forced indoors by noon.

    Love your shots of Seattle. We got to Vancouver 2 years ago but never made it to Seattle.
    Now that was mighty hot!

    @ Beverley Baird -- Well, I might be rather prejudiced, because I'm a third generation British Columbian (living in Alberta now) but I think Vancouver is even nicer than Seattle. LOL

    Lovely photos! It's so nice to see blue skies in Seattle. I always think of Seattle as being overcast for much of the time. Yes 39 celsius is rather hot. That's not an unusual temp for summer here in Queensland. We often reach a few 40+ celsius days. And this is exactly why I could never survive a snowy winter! Extreme heat I can deal with. Extreme cold...not way!

    I think your indoor tip re the basil is spot on. Quite a few people have suggested the same thing. I just don't have any ideal indoor spots. I've had some helpful suggestions though so I'm feeling a little more confident :)

    Today it is -17 Celsius and here I am looking at your photos taken during a heat wave. I got a chuckle out of the patio people sitting in the hot sun. I thought humans were suppose to be the intelligent species. Excellent photos. Keep on clicking.

    Oh my goodness Kay ! You and I are the same .. but is just too funny for a gardener like myself to hate the heat/humidity but love to garden so much that I can stand it for the sake of my garden .. and you are traveler!
    So right about the baseball game and men .. same thing applies to hockey games! haha
    Love that totem pole and the quality of the shade .. phew !!

    Phew, too hot but the shadows you caught are wonderful - so sharp and clear. I'm a sun-avoider, too, so can sympathise with you.

    I remember this, we went camping in Oregon and Washington hoping to get out of the Sacramento heat. If I remember correctly the last night of the trip we gave up and got a room so we could have air-conditioning.

    Yes -- you were in the Pacific Northwest during an untypical summer. Beautiful shadows and Seattle is always beautiful, whether in the rain or heat. Who won the baseball game ? ;>) (Just kidding, but Bill misses seeing the Mariners on TV)

    Love it there in Seattle. Not sure if I would live there, but fun to visit! I stayed at the Pioneer Hotel. Love the architecture!
