The State Hermitage Museum, in St. Petersburg, Russia, is the largest art museum in the world, with more than three million works of art in 10 buildings. While visiting on a tour from the Viking Surkov, during our August holiday with Viking River Cruises, my husband was able to get only a small taste of the riches.

Despite seeing only a small part of the collection, Dick managed, of course, to give me hundreds of pictures from that day. In a future post, I will try to show you some of the paintings but, for now, here's one by an artist many people will recognize, and a photo of a few other paintings.

The Hermitage is Heavenly! I enlarged every photo... whew! That must have been a few hours of sensory overload for Dick... but I'd take that kind of punishment any day!
ReplyDeleteExcellent selection of pictures from a museum where, one could easily get lost - in directions and admiration. Thanks for sharing.

ReplyDeleteMy ABC is about the Humongous Coke in Disney.
Incredibly fine photos! So many places to see, so little time. :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful place.
ReplyDeleteIt seems that St. Petersburg is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I wish it weren't so far away. My husband has been and is trying to talk me into one of those cruises. I love that wooden screen.
ReplyDeleteWow. Those are incredible!
ReplyDeleteThe Hermitage must be a fantastic place. It looks so rich and wonderful. At the time the czar lived here there must have been an immense gap between the rich and the poor. I always have double feelings when I see such splendour, but I am glad that this was not destroyed during the revolution or WW II.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week, dear friend!
With ten buildings it would take days to even see a fraction of the art. Your husband got some great shots. The Hermitage is on my list of places to see one day.
ReplyDeleteThat must be something very special and beautiful ! I am surprised that he was allowed to take pictures !
ReplyDeleteMagnificent, - that would surely fill your soul with beauty.
ReplyDeletewow, simply stunning!
