Sky watching in Matisse's Collioure

The artist Henri Matisse found much inspiration in the beautiful seaside town in Collioure, France, near the Spanish border. When we visited in April, 2011, we were enchanted by the light and color, just as he was. The sky offered a wide range of blues, from misty pale, to deepest blue reflected in the sea.

  6. Yes, I can see him here, especially in that third photo, with the harbor and the pretty blue boat. I'm fond of Matisse's paintings, and how wonderful it must have been to visit one of the places where he actually painted them!

  14. What a beautiful place, I can understand how any artist would be inspired here. I love the deep blue of the sky and water in your fourth shot, I would love to take one of those boats out on the water.

That was a scary story about you and your sibling's sunburns. It can happen so quickly that even an adult could have made a similar mistake.

  19. Beautiful photos Kay, - it is wonderful to accompany on your many travels, pictorially, and thank you for sharing so generously. That lovely mottled tree in the last picture makes a wonderful frame for the tower on the hill. Is it an Abbey, a church?
