Of all the places we visited in The Netherlands, my favorite was Hoorn. Heading back to the Viking Pride after our long walk through Hoorn, I made Dick stop while I photographed these: an old anchor and an old propeller. I would guess they're probably from a fishing boat, or a large pleasure craft. I loved their shadows. Even the chain holding the propeller has cast a bit of shadow for Tracy's meme:

@ Dimple — Thanks. Yes, the anchor is big, but I've seen bigger when I lived on the west coast. I left a bit of the parked car in the photo to give an idea of the size, but it may not give an accurate idea. The anchor is probably a yard long, or maybe a meter (39").

Cloud Shadows
I love the old anchor with the striations in the mud, Kay. Really good texture throughout the entire image.
ReplyDeleteThe prop and anchor seem so out of place on land and away from the water. Yet, in style and color, the sit on the shore as artistic pieces. The oxidizing rust adds a neat hue to each, and the shadows of each are equally artistic. Nice find!

They seem so strange and alone when viewed out of their element and cast aside, even though they are vital on a boat at sea. I wonder what tales they could tell?

Kay there was no trip I didn't love within the Netherlands when we lived there .. I never took anything for granted because it was all so special .. you got great shots of a very in tune "water' nation : )

These tools of the sailor do make interesting shadows. I like to take pictures of discarded implements, I guess that is why I like Bodie State Park, lots of old stuff there.
