One of the the Amsterdam tours included in our rivers and canals cruise with Viking River Cruises was to the famous Red Light District. Dick and his camera went with the tour group while I stayed on board in order to rest after our trans-Atlantic flight. I do see some red lights here, and pink ones, too, as well as the reflective rims of Amsterdam's ubiquitous bicycles, but I chose this photo because of all the white swans who seem to reflect the light themselves!

There are many many more red lights than that, Kay. A most grotesque neighbourhood of any large city, but expecially in Amsterdam!
ReplyDeletethe bike tires create a dramatic effect
ReplyDeleteYou've chosen well Kay - very pretty reflections!
ReplyDeleteWow those swan looks like enjoying themselves!! Pretty good shot!

lovely, the swans might think they have changed into colourful swans.
ReplyDeleteAha! You didn't show the red-light windows, hunh? I noticed the ladies only smiled at Art and not me. Ah well...
ReplyDeleteNice reflections, the swans look pretty happy.
ReplyDeleteFantastic photo! Swans are on the neon-reflected water. Something surreal!!
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend!
Red lights and swans. Hmmm. :)
ReplyDeleteKay, this is such a stunning picture! Somehow I really like the reflective bike tires...
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful picture !
ReplyDeleteI hate these bicycles in Amsterdam they are so dangerous for everybody who is not sitting on a bike. My son inspired by his girlfriend does everything on a bike except sleeping ! (or nearly)
how beautiful to see the swans floatign through the coloured lights... i love Amsterdam and floating along the canals there
ReplyDeletebrave taking your camera out in that area
ReplyDeleteWow! Fabulous capture! A beautiful ballet of swans in a beautifully coloured canal!

I toured the red light district with my cousin, who lives in Amsterdam. I smiled and waved at the prostitutes because I felt sorry for them. My cousin shook his head and told me to stop. He said you aren't supposed to make eye contact with them. The prostitutes (just working girls in my opinion) didn't seem to mind, though. The ones who noticed, smiled back.
ReplyDeleteThis photo is chock full of reflections and that's a pretty eyrar of swans.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful night shot Kay. The reflections are so colorful. I like the capture of those bike tires, magical!
