O is for Orsay — Musée d'Orsay

There is so much to see in Paris, we couldn't possibly see all of it in five nights and four days, not even all the things within an easy walk of our hotel in the 7th Arrondissement. One place I wanted to visit, but couldn't, is the Musée d'Orsay, which is now featuring a Manet exhibit. This special exhibition started four days after we left Paris, and runs until July 3. If you are within an easy commute of Paris, I would suggest it would be great to see this exhibit featuring "Manet, the Man who Invented Modern Art"!
And...did you know the Musée d'Orsay is housed in the former railroad station Gare d'Orsay?

    This is one of the few places in Paris we have visited. The clerks were on strike that day and after a long wait in the rain visitors were finally allowed in, for free, as there was no one to take our money.

    Beautiful! I also posted a wee bit of something on Manet. I love those sculptures and find myself feeling a bit of public art envy. We have none in our city yet.

    These travel blogs make me sad. I want to be there. It has been 29 years since I toured Europe with my family. I would appreciate that Manet exhibit so much more now.

    I'm so glad you got to go there. It's one of our favorite museums. There was a Millet painting there of a spring rain that I fell in love with. I was hoping they'd have a poster, but alas, no.

    I love all of the animal statues especially the rhino, he is very cool. Sorry you missed the Manet exhibit, that would have been exciting.

    I have been in this museum several times with my art school, and I have seen Manet in Brussels there are also lots of famous museums. For the moment we have a big Egyptian one, with mummies etc. I absolutely have to go there. It is in this big exposition building just opposite from the Atomium if you remember, because the exposed things are so huge !

    I'm lucky enough to have visited, a few years ago. I would love to go back, it has the wow factor. I'm drooling over the Manet poster now, and due to go to France in July, but will miss the show as well; timing is everything isn't it.

    Ooh...one of the museums I've most wanted to see! The Manet exhibition would be excellent, but as you say, there is rarely enough time to visit all the wonders a city has to offer. I hope to get to Paris one day...:)
